Liverpool have reportedly thrown its hat into the ring to acquire Sporting Lisbon’s prolific goal-scorer Victor Gyokeres. Despite having yet to notch their first signing of the summer, the Reds are still being linked with a plethora of potential targets.
Victor Gyokeres has been the subject of significant transfer speculations since January. He is now back in the spotlight.
Initially, Liverpool’s interest was noted at the start of the year, but the buzz eventually quieted down. However, recent reports suggest that the speculation has intensified again.
Football Insider reported that Liverpool have now actively entered the race to sign Gyokeres. They are not alone in the race.
Arsenal are also eager to secure the striker’s signature. Gyokeres has apparently an £86 million release clause in his contract with Sporting Lisbon.
Liverpool Face Tough Challenge To Get Gyokeres
Recent claims also indicate that Arsenal are preparing an offer for Gyokeres. Although it is expected to be below the release clause amount.
It is still unclear when Liverpool might make their move. But their interest in the striker has been vivid and quite strong.
Additionally, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been mentioned as clubs interested in Gyokeres. The striker had a remarkable season with Sporting Lisbon, netting 43 goals.
He joined the Primeira Liga club last summer from Coventry City in a deal that could be worth up to £20 million.
Liverpool’s squad already boasts a strong line-up of forward players who can operate in the same position as Gyokeres.
Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota are all capable of playing as center-forwards for the Reds. Additionally, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah provide formidable support from the wings.
As the transfer window remains open until September 2, Liverpool have time to finalize any potential deals.
The question remains whether they will make a decisive move for Gyokeres and beat their rivals to his signature.
