Liverpool have won a major transfer battle in Florian Wirtz transfer race — and the reaction from Bayern Munich says it all.
After weeks of rumours, the Reds are on the verge of completing the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The deal is already agreed in principle, with only formalities left once the player returns from holiday. The fee? A jaw-dropping €150 million, including add-ons, which makes Wirtz Liverpool’s most expensive signing ever.
Player | Transfer fee |
Florian Wirtz | €150m |
Darwin Nunez | €85m |
Virgil van Dijk | €84.65m |
Dominik Szoboszlai | €70m |
Alisson Becker | €62.5m |
But Liverpool aren’t the only ones who wanted him. Bayern Munich were very much in the race, until the door was slammed shut. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl didn’t hide his feelings.
“At first you think, ‘Damn’, but when one door closes, another opens,” Eberl admitted. “You reset and prepare again for the future. Florian will make his mark at Liverpool – he’s an exceptional player, no question about it.”
That’s high praise from a rival — and a clear sign of just how big this move is.

What’s next for Florian Wirtz?
Wirtz had a sensational season at Leverkusen, guiding them to a Bundesliga title and collecting awards along the way.
Still only 22, he’s known for his vision, control, and ability to unlock any defense. At Liverpool, he’s expected to be the heart of Arne Slot’s midfield engine.
The Reds were already crowned Premier League champions this past season, but there were a few stumbles, especially in Europe and cup competitions. Adding Wirtz is a statement that Liverpool aren’t just looking to stay on top; they’re aiming to dominate.
The club will now finalise the deal once Wirtz returns from vacation. A medical and contract signing are next on the list.
It’s not just a transfer — it’s a signal. The next phase at Anfield has begun.
