Liverpool aims to bring some joy to their fans when they lock horns with Aston Villa on Boxing day. The Reds returned to competitive action following the World Cup in Thursday’s Carabao Cup clash against Man City, where they lost 3-2 against the Sky Blues.
All eye on Liverpool vs villa
After a disappointing start to the second half of the campaign, Liverpool are looking forward to rewriting their destiny in Premier League. Their next fixture is against Aston Villa in the West Midlands.
Klopp’s troops are currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League table. On the other hand, the Lions are sitting at the bottom half of the table.
Villa has won one and drew one in their last five matches against the Reds in all the competitions.
Injury concern for the Reds
The Merseyside giants are struggling with their injury issues. Players such as Luiz Diaz, Arthur Melo, Diogo Jota, Trent Arnold, Firmino, and Curtis are expected to be out during the match against Villa. James Milner can possibly make a return on 26th December, but it is highly unlikely that he will be featured in the clash against Villa.
Fight for survival
Liverpool are going through a tough period and the German manager is desperate to change things and bring back the Reds to winning ways. LFC has won 3 out of 5 games in all competitions.
Both teams are desperate to win this fixture. The English giants are currently in the sixth position. A win against Aton Villa will put them back into the top 4 race. Moreover, Liverpool fans are desperate for a positive result after a heartbreaking exit from the Carabao Cup.
On the other hand, the Lions are struggling in the bottom half of the table. Each loss will inch them closer to the relegation zone.
Red’s possible lineup
The Merseyside giants will miss their inform striker Roberto Firmino due to a calf injury and fan favorite James Milner.
The 36-year-old will miss the next couple of days due to a hamstring issue faced in the Carabao Cup defeat. The Reds are also waiting to discover if Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit for the PL clash.
Klopp admitted Trent is yet to train with the squad. However, Joe Gomez could act as a replacement in the full-back area alongside Virgil van Dijk and Matip.
Meanwhile, the World Cup runners-up Ibrahima Konate will not return to training until 27th December. Thus, the Frenchman will not even be seen on the bench this Monday.
Liverpool’s predicted lineup
Alison; Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliot, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Nunez, Carvalho.
Will Liverpool show their true character or will the Villians stun the Reds’ global fan base?
