Club World Cup team planning free transfer swoop for Liverpool star

Real Madrid are planning to bring another Liverpool player in 2026.

Madrid are known for their recent free signings. The Spanish giants signed French star Kylian Mbappe as a free agent back in 2024. Club president Florentino Perez is known for making smart transfer moves that are financially beneficial for the club.

In late 2024, Trent Alexander-Arnold decided to join the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, after the 2024/25 season. Real Madrid secured his transfer in the last month for a modest fee of €10 million, allowing him to arrive in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

It wasn’t an easy decision for the Reds to let go of their academy star, who served the club for nearly 20 years. Arnold’s contribution to Liverpool is unforgettable, helping them win 1 Champions League and 2 Premier League titles.

Arne Slot acted quickly by signing Jeremie Frimpong immediately following Madrid’s announcement, as a direct replacement for Liverpool’s number 66.

Now, as per latest reports, Real Madrid are already planning to bring another Liverpool player as a free agent in 2026.

Liverpool defender is on Real Madrid’s radar

According to Marca, Real Madrid is planning to sign Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate as a free agent in 2026.

Konate’s contract expires in 2026, and Madrid are monitoring the situation. Earlier reports even suggested they considered signing him this summer. But after securing Dean Huijsen, they might not push for another defender just yet.

Liverpool, on the other hand, may prepare a new deal for the French defender. Arne Slot reportedly considers him untouchable. His pairing with Virgil van Dijk was one of the main reasons Liverpool won the Premier League last season.

Meanwhile, another report from Graeme Bailey claims that Konate is asking for a big salary in his new contract.

There’s also a possibility that the Reds may consider selling him if they fail to extend his deal.

Konate still plays a vital role in Liverpool’s backline. And right now, the club doesn’t have a ready replacement for him.
