Liverpool are reportedly looking for a successor for Virgil van Dijk and Benfica defender is said to be the top of the list that the Reds are looking at to add depth to their squad.
Benfica’s $87 million-rated Orkun Kokcu, is reportedly (via Portuguese outlet Record) a top target for Liverpool as they look to add a high-profile midfield player in January.
Liverpool are on the hunt for Benfica defender
The 23-year-old Kokcu could strengthen Liverpool’s squad depth if he signs with for the Reds as Arne Slot knows him from their time together at Feyenoord.
Injury concerns could leave the team lacking in depth, even with strong options like Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch.
Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa were already signed by Slot, but Kokcu might be the next big addition to bolster the Reds.
Liverpool are also lining up Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP and Loic Bade of Sevilla as potential centre-back successors in anticipation of Virgil van Dijk’s possible departure out of the Premier League.
Because Van Dijk a pillar of Liverpool’s defense hasn’t agreed to a new deal the team will need to find replacements in case the Dutchman decides to leave.
These defenders are apparently being considered by the Reds as long-term options despite the fact that replacing Van Dijk’s leadership and calibre is an enormous task.
