New: Liverpool ready to reward star player with New Contract after Barcelona and PSG interest
Liverpool are set to offer Luis Diaz a new long-term contract after the winger’s impressive start to the season and interest from European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Luis Diaz contract talks amid transfer speculation
This summer, both Barcelona and PSG showed keen interest in Diaz as they looked to bolster their attacking options.
However, after returning from the Copa America, it became clear that Liverpool manager Arne Slot sees the 27-year-old as a key figure in his plans. Diaz’s form has justified this belief, with the Colombian scoring three goals and providing an assist in his first three appearances, keeping Cody Gakpo on the bench.
Liverpool’s faith in Diaz is now set to be reflected in a new contract. According to reports, the club is preparing to open talks to secure Diaz’s future at Anfield. This follows a tradition at Liverpool where players are initially signed on lower wages, with performance-based incentives leading to improved deals.
When Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in 2022 in a deal worth up to £50 million, his weekly wage was reported to be around £55,000. This is significantly lower than Liverpool’s top earners, with Mohamed Salah on £350,000 per week and recent signing Federico Chiesa earning around £120,000 per week.
Slot’s arrival boosts Diaz’s impact
Since his arrival at Anfield, Diaz has made 101 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 14 assists. His influence has only grown under Slot, whose new system appears to have revitalized several players, including Diaz.
Even Salah acknowledged the impact of the managerial change after Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United.
Reflecting on the transition from Jurgen Klopp to Slot, Salah told Sky Sports, “It’s quite tricky to say, but we had Jurgen for seven years, so you kind of get in your comfort zone somehow… But with a new manager, he comes with his style and he just wants everybody to adapt.”
Diaz’s performances this season have underscored his importance to Liverpool’s attack. With a goal or assist every 55 minutes in the Premier League so far, his clinical finishing and growing influence on the pitch make him a player Liverpool cannot afford to lose.
As the club prepares to offer Diaz a new deal, fans will be hopeful that the Colombian continues to thrive and lead Liverpool’s charge in the Premier League and beyond.
