Liverpool are preparing to make their move for Bournemouth’s rising defender Dean Huijsen, with reports (via David Lynch) suggesting the club is ready to activate his £50 million release clause this summer.
The 20-year-old has caught the eye of several top clubs, but it’s the Reds who are now stepping up their interest in a serious way.
The Merseyside club has been keeping close tabs on Huijsen’s progress after a strong season with Bournemouth. Despite being only 20, he’s already showing signs of becoming a top defender.
His tall frame, smart positioning, and calmness on the ball have impressed many, and Liverpool believe he could be a key part of their future plans.
They aren’t alone in the race. Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the picture, while Real Madrid’s interest appears to be cooling off.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Madrid haven’t yet made up their mind about signing a new center-back. That delay could give Premier League sides a clear advantage.
“They have Raul Asencio at the club, who is doing very well. So that’s why Real Madrid are not so convinced, not about Huijsen, but about signing a new centre-back in the summer,” Romano shared on the GIVEMESPORT podcast. “And this is why the timing is helping the English clubs.”

Liverpool looking to seal the deal early for Dean Huijsen
Liverpool’s recruitment team prefers to act fast, especially with key players like Joel Matip facing uncertain futures.
Huijsen ticks many boxes — he’s young, composed, and already has Premier League experience under his belt. He also brings a different dimension to the backline, which could be vital in a long season.
Bournemouth’s willingness to talk early could be just the opening Liverpool need. The Reds want to avoid a summer-long chase and get business done quickly.
With the release clause already known, most of the focus now shifts to convincing the player and his camp.
Romano added: “So Liverpool will be there, Arsenal will be there, and Chelsea will be there. The release clause is £50m, so the negotiation is on player side, basically.”
Huijsen may have just entered his 20’s, but he’s turning heads across Europe. Now, it’s up to Liverpool to stay ahead of the competition and secure a deal that could shape their defense for years.
Liverpool want to strengthen at the back, and Huijsen might be the answer. A £50m punt? Or a bargain in disguise?
