Henderson injury return

Before their matchup against Manchester City, Jordan Henderson offers Liverpool an injury boost. The impact of the Liverpool captain will be significant if he starts against the Sky Blues.

Jordan Henderson, the Liverpool captain, has been declared “good to go” by Gareth Southgate after recovering from sickness.

Last Thursday, England defeated Italy 2-1 in their opening Euro 2024 qualifying match, with Henderson sitting on the bench.

The midfielder was unable to properly train leading up to the match in Naples, according to Southgate.

Jordan Henderson is over his illness issues

Henderson was ill the week before the Reds’ 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.

But, the 34-year-old is beyond his problem as England gets ready to play Ukraine at Wembley.

And it is a major boost for Liverpool as they prepare for a challenging trip to the Etihad on Saturday in their hope to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Gareth Southgate on Henderson

The England boss said:

“He [Henderson] hadn’t trained a lot the previous week, he’d had an illness, which was the reason he missed Liverpool’s game the week before – so he was a little bit undercooked for that. But he’s good now. He’s good to go.”

Henderson, who played a significant role in England’s preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has not performed well for Liverpool this year.

In 31 appearances in all competitions, he has only provided two assists thus far.

The whole Liverpool squad looks to be in their worst form this season and it is clearly visible on the turf as well. If anything, Liverpool this season are inconsistent with both their wins and losses.

The Reds may be without six first-team players when they go to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday (April 1), despite the former Sunderland midfielder being expected to be fit to face Manchester City.

The injuries suffered by Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, and Calvin Ramsay are all being treated at this time. Thus, it is likely they might not start the game against the Champions.
