Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is already on his way to progress talks with Feyenoord with €40M for Orkun Kokcu. The club is eager to sign the second player in this transfer window after the successful completion of Alexis Mac Allister’s signing.
The Anfield outfit have smoothly completed their first business of the season. The signing of Mac Allister in an initial £35M deal is a great deal. But Klopp has planned to recruit at least two more midfielders to have a firm grip in the middle of the park.
The club is already linked with Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram, and Gabri Veiga as potential transfers. Also, the Reds have explored the option of Aurelien Tchouameni.
But the club is looking at both quality and quantity in signings this season. They wouldn’t be going after a big signing as seen regarding the Jude Bellingham saga. A similar thing happened with Mason Mount as the English midfielder feels a bit costlier.
Klopp wants Orkun Kokcu to be a part of the Liverpool team
According to a report by De Telegraaf, Klopp wants to bring the Turkish international to Liverpool this summer. The report also says that Kokcu is also on Benfica’s radar and they are ready to fight Liverpool.
However, Liverpool are in a strong position for signing the midfielder and have already established contact. Although the report has not stated if the contact is with Feyenoord or the player. But one thing is sure that Klopp is ‘charmed’ by the prospects of adding Kokcu to his midfield.
The No. 10 has been an indispensable part of the title-winning team, providing 12 assists and scoring 5 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. These stats are amazing keeping in mind that he is a defensive midfielder. He has also put on an average of 1.2 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per game (stats via WhoScored).
Feyenoord are afraid that they will be losing the star to some bigger club. So now they are trying to cash out on Kokcu on a club record transfer fee.
The 22-year-old is taking some time to make up his mind about his next transfer. However, the report says that he will be making a decision before international duty starts later this month.
The Turkish international would be a good competition to Fabinho who looked a little off this season. The Brazilian could also be replaced by Kokcu in the coming days.
If Liverpool can get this deal done then they will have landed two quality midfielders for less than £70M.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
