Liverpool could sell goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and defender Nat Philips to free up funds to buy their top transfer targets according to journalist James Pearce.
Why Liverpool willing to sell Caoimhin Kelleher?
As per the reports of The Athletic, the Merseyside giants will be looking to continue their streak of selling players for impressive transfer fees, in order to make the funds available for their top transfer targets.
Liverpool are desperate to sign players in the middle of the park. Currently, the Reds are lacking creativity and dominance in the midfield. This crisis could cause Kelleher’s departure in the Summer transfer window.
Jude Bellingham, Ruben Neves, and Mathus Nunes are some of the top targets of LFC.
There are also some talks that Phillips could leave the Merseyside giants as well to make way for new talents. According to Liverpool Echo, the center-back is expected to leave the club as soon as this week.
Meanwhile, the Irish goalkeeper has been seen as the top talent by the English giants, but the superb form of Alisson Becker has forced the Irishman to be the second-choice goalkeeper for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Klopp on Kelleher
Klopp has always been extremely complimentary of the shot-stopper. He claimed the 24-year-old to be an “outstanding “ player who is the “best number two” in world football.
According to fbref.com, last year the Red’s second goalkeeper played for 2 matches for a total of 180 minutes, where he had 6 saves with a 75% save percentage.
A player with such qualities can not be any team’s 2nd choice for much longer. The Irishman is not expected to leave for a fee below £10M. Although Kelleher could command more, he could definitely be a starter for several teams in the Premier League.
