Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is looking to offer a contract extension to their veteran midfielder James Milner.

Milner’s current contract runs out at the end of the Summer but at this point, no decision has yet been made over whether the English midfielder will retire or stay with the Merseyside club.

There have been talks that the veteran midfielder is considering to hung up his boots after this season. However, there is a high chance that the Reds will convince him to stay for another year.

Klopp to influence Milner on contract extension

Jurgen Klopp could be very much influential to make the Milner stay for one more season at Anfield. The Englishman brings stability and experience on the turf.

Milner’s versatility is unmatchable, the 37-year-old has even played as a wingback for the Merseyside giants to bring defensive stability in the team.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s reports, no final decision has been taken on Liverpool number 7’s future. But there is a huge possibility that Klopp and Milner will sit down to talk about his future.

Fabrizio Romano on Milner’s contract extension

The Italian journalist told Caughtoffside

“Nothing has been decided on James Milner’s future yet. Milner will speak with Klopp at the end of the season and make a decision about his future.”

“He is heading towards the end of his contract, but it’s too early to say what happens next. Whether that’s a new deal, a move somewhere else, or even retirement.”

“Liverpool are super happy with his involvement but the player and Klopp will speak in the next months, not now.”

James Milner has played 15 matches in Premier League where he has registered one assist. The midfielder has a prgP of 43 and an expected npxG+xAG of 1.1 according to FBref.in.

The Reds need fresh young blood like Jude Bellingham or Mathus Nunes but at the same time, they need players like Milner to guide young talents.
