Liverpool have created a shortlist of four players to add to their midfield in the upcoming two transfer windows.

The midfield has received a lot of attention this year due to the Reds’ poor form and injury woes, t

Liverpool’s inability to win aerial duels this season—prior to Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Brighton, they had won just 43% of all duels. And their tendency to give up goals from more direct attacks has put the midfield under intense scrutiny. This is a significant issue, according to James Pearce of The Athletic.

Many have criticized Liverpool’s transfer department for their inactivity in adding new players for the center of the field. Thiago is the lone addition in the last four and a half years. Reds legend Jamie Carragher is really unhappy with this approach.

However, according to a recent source, it seems that Jurgen Klopp’s team is making an effort to find a solution.

Liverpool shortlist midfielders

Galetti said in an interview with GiveMeSport that the Reds are keeping an eye on four midfielders, including Jude Bellingham. And may make a bid for them in the January or summer transfer windows.

One of the names on the list is Piotr Zielinski, a 28-year-old star for Napoli, for whom Liverpool had an offer of £11.7 million rejected by Udinese in the summer of 2016.

Since joining Napoli that same summer, the Polish box-to-box midfielder. He is at ease in possession, has made 305 appearances, and scored 43 goals.

The 24-year-old midfielder from Morocco and Fiorentina, Sofyan Amrabat, is thought to be a target for the Reds. But French publication Foot Mercato claims he would rather join Atletico Madrid.

The Reds are also interested in Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad. He has made a big impression since joining La Liga from the Premier League’s Newcastle in 2018.

Galetti clarified the aims as follows:

“There are other names on their list, including Amrabat, Merino, and Zielinski.”

“But especially these last two names are possible targets for the summer. In this case, the situation will be clearer in the next few days, so let’s wait.”
