Liverpool looking to sign £48.5 million Spanish youngster
According to reports Liverpool are keen to sign Nico Williams as a long-term replacement for Mohammed Salah. The Euro 2024 star for Spain were on Liverpool’s list this summer, but the 22 year old decided to stay at Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona were favourites to sign Williams this summer, but the club did not move with the deal and Williams opted to stay in his boyhood club.
Liverpool still in for Nico Williams?
Liverpool were looking to strengthen their forward line all summer, with several player appreciated. Anthony Gordon was top in Liverpool’s list, but Newcastle failed to let him go.
Williams has three years left on his contract at Athletic Bilbao and has a release clause of around £48.5 million. Athletic Bilbao recently handed him the No.10.
Spanish outlet Fichajes, claim that Liverpool are preparing the ground for a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, with Athletic Club ‘s Nico Williams top of their list.
If the Reds want Nico Williams to come to Anfield they will have to be prepared to face tough competition. Barcelona and Manchester United are also reportedly still interested in the winger.
His natural position is a left-winger but he can also effectively play on the right. Williams made 27 goal contributions in 37 games last season. Moreover, he played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 campaign which saw them lift the trophy.
Nico Williams is currently one of the best winger in Europe, but it currently not a profile Liverpool need right now. Reds can use the money more wisely and go for a defender and a No.6.
