Liverpool emerged victorious against Aston Villa with a comfortable 2-0 scoreline and Ibrahima Konate praised Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Merseysiders have climbed to the top of the PL table with a five-point lead after yesterday’s victory.
The Reds hosted Unai Emery’s side at Anfield in a weekend showdown where the visitors looked threatening from the start.
However, Darwin Nunez scored the opener in the 20th minute that put the PL giants in the driver’s seat. Despite the setback, the Villains continued to hunt for their first goal.
Prior to the 45-minute mark, the visiting side received a corner and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher had to make a double save off of Amadou Onana and Diego Carlos’ headers.
Although Emery & Co. had many a few chances throughout the game but they were not able to capitalise on those.
In the 84th minute, Mohamed Salah scored the second goal for LFC that secured the game for them.
Konate lauds Kelleher for Liverpool win vs. Villa
As the Anfield giants secured their foothold as the points table leaders prior to the international break, the Irish goalkeeper had a major contribution in that.
Speaking about the heroics of Kelleher, French defender Konate said via LFCTV,
“We have to say thank you to Caoimhin. He made two important saves. Since I am here he works so hard. I am very happy for him.”
The second-choice Reds goalkeeper has been featuring for the first-team for the majority of the 2024-25 season due to Alisson’s injury problem.
And he has been delivering excellent performances in the absence of the LFC no. 1. In the eight starts across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has only conceded five goals and kept four clean sheets.
However, as Alisson is expected to return in action after the international break, he will again have to remain on the bench.
