Liverpool keep a close watch on the outcome of Man City hearing on Monday
The hearing of Manchester City challenging the Associated Party Transaction rules (APT) imposed by the Premier League will be out soon as Liverpool watches on.
Earlier this year, Sky Blues took legal action against the PL with a 165-page claim as they believe the new APT rules are not fair and have been seeking damages.
Imposed in 2021 by the league after the Saudi takeover of Newcastle United, this legislation ensures that clubs are not signing any inflated commercial deals with companies that are linked to their ownership.
According to a report via the Times back in June, it was confirmed that the Etihad outfit strongly believed the rules have been brought in place to stifle their on-pitch success since 2016.
However, in reality, this rule intends to implement fairness and uniformity so that the smaller clubs do not fall behind drastically in the competition.
Manchester City await APT and FFP hearing
Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom recently revealed that a decision on City’s two-week private arbitration hearing against the rules earlier this year will soon be made public.
However, he believes that if the PL giants win this case, it would not be “helpful” for the welfare of the game. Speaking to The Athletic earlier this month, Bloom said,
“I don’t want to talk too much about that because it has gone to arbitration and we are going to get a ruling on that soon. We [Brighton] are outsiders.
Each club, legally, are able to do that. I don’t think it’s great for the reputation of the Premier League, but these things happen. We have to see how the legal process develops. I don’t think it will be helpful for the Premier League to lose the case, but we are going to find out the outcome soon.”
Some sources have even claimed that City have achieved success in that arbitration hearing which might be revealed in the next two weeks.
The hearing of the FFP case is also scheduled to start this coming Monday as the defending PL champions have been charged with 115 FFP breaches. The APT verdict might also impact the hearing of the FFP case.
