France is in need of a new captain after coach Didier Deschamps decided to drop Mbappe from upcoming games and Ibrahima Konate is rumoured to take his place as captain.
It has not been a great start to the season for the French forward Kylian Mbappe. With Mbappe not on his best form Didier Deschamps decided to drop his he believed it’s better this way.
Kylian Mbappe was made France captain after Hugo Lloris’s retirement and with Griezmann also announcing his retirement from international football there is no one to take the captain’s place.
Is Ibrahima Konate set to be France captain?
French outlet RMC Sport has revealed Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate is in contention for the armband, alongside Barcelona’s Jules Kounde and Al-Ittihad’s N’Golo Kante.
Aurelien Tchouameni had inherited the role during the last gathering. But the Real Madrid midfielder is out for this international break, after sustaining an injury. Ibrahima Konate was trusted with the captain’s armband for France last international break when Tchouaméni was substituted.
“You will know on Thursday or maybe Wednesday if I decide to send the captain to a press conference, because it is not an obligation,” said Didier Deschamps
Ibrahima Konate has been great for Liverpool so far this season and is definitely a strong contender to become the France national team captain.
Konate is back in the French team after failing to make a single appearance in the Euros. Arsenal’s William Saliba was preferred ahead of Konate. Becoming the captain will be a great moment for him.
