After the World Cup mania ends, club football will make its return. And Liverpool are set to go head-to-head against Wolves for their FA Cup match.
Liverpool and Wolves to meet up for FA Cup third round
In the third round of the FA Cup, Liverpool has been assigned to host Wolves; their title defense will get underway in January. The FA Cup third-round draw was held at Anfield on Monday night. The Reds, the league champions from last year and current cup holders, hosted it.
Jurgen Klopp’s team was drawn to play Wolves. And the match will likely be played at home on the weekend of January 7–8. With the possibility of three more matches, if they advance in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, it is their fourth game presently planned for January.
The match is scheduled to take place the same week as Brentford’s first 2023 Premier League match. It is a trip to that team on January 2. With only two wins and nine losses in 15 games, Wolves are now last in the Premier League. Manager Bruno Lage was fired at the beginning of October.
What to expect?
In charge of the Midlands club, which was eliminated by Norwich in the fourth round of last season’s championship, is currently former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui. Last season, Liverpool had an impressive run to the FA Cup final. They have won games against Shrewsbury, Cardiff, Norwich, Nottingham Forest, and Man City.
That led to a matchup with Chelsea at Wembley. It finished in a 0-0 draw and was eventually decided by a 6-5 victory on penalties, Kostas Tsimikas being the game-winning shooter. Takumi Minamino led the Reds in scoring in the cup previous season with three. And Ibrahima Konate was the only player to appear in every game as they advanced to the finals.
