In order for Liverpool to figure out what is going wrong, Andy Robertson acknowledges that they have lost their path and advises each player to take a good, hard look in the mirror.

Few could have foreseen the Reds’ decline after they went for an unprecedented quadruple last season. They went on to win two trophies and were runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.

Liverpool had also done well in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City in July. But that performance was simply a prelude since they had only won two of their first six Premier League games.

A humiliating 4-1 loss against Napoli on Wednesday in the Champions League group stage added insult to injury, prompting Klopp to discuss the need to “reinvent” and Robertson to urge reflection.

After a night in which Luis Diaz drew one goal back for Piotr Zielinski, goals from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone, as well as a brace from Zielinski, were scored, the left-back said, “We need to put our finger on it.”

According to Andy, the team needs to determine why that is occurring. He said that he can’t pinpoint it right now because if he could, it would already be resolved.

But they must return to it. He added that over the years, their intensity has been remarkable. It shows in the way they collaborate, press teams, and put them under pressure.

And it is clear right now that this is not the case. It’s not taking place. He said the supporters are not stupid; they can see things happening on the field as well. And Liverpool must act immediately.

Stronger partnerships, more work on the left and right sides, the midfield, and closer proximity between the strikers. And a return to compactness is all necessary.

Andy Robertson believes the defense should make more effort in order to win games

The team needs to resume keeping clean sheets, which is the foundation of a successful game. They haven’t done that enough this year.

It’s that simple: when you keep clean sheets, you know you can’t lose. We gave up four goals to Napoli, maybe deservedly. Ali has saved a penalty, so they may have had more opportunities.

Klopp tried to make sense of the chaotic display’s various components. But he made reference to its lack of compactness, saying it had been a while since he had seen such a problem.

As attention turns to Saturday’s Premier League match against Wolves, Robertson spoke to the team website.

“It all starts because we weren’t compact enough. You come away here, we’ve not won here as a group.

Obviously, we’ve always found it difficult, and you just think: go and keep it tight. We’re a pressing team, and when your mate doesn’t win the ball, you have to have somebody to back him up; we didn’t have that, people were flying into challenges, they were turning fairly easily, and then nobody was there to back it up, and then they had acres of space to run into.

We left our two center-backs exposed, and we left Ali exposed. When you happen to do that, and they were clinical – they take their chances – then you find yourself in the position that you’re in.

Nowhere near good enough. We can’t front it up any other way than that, it’d be daft of us.

The Liverpool fans deserve better than that. We deserve better than that as a squad; we have to look at ourselves. We have to look individually before we look collectively.

Are we doing enough for the team? Are we playing the way we want to play? Are we doing exactly what we should be doing?

Because it didn’t look like it. We’re a pressing team, we like to get on the front foot, we like to put teams under pressure, and just now, we’re going in ones and twos, but we’re not going in threes and fours and fives, and that’s when we have really good games. And we need to get back to that really quickly.”
