Liverpool ends deal with Nike as new kit designs are ready and sealed

Liverpool are preparing to return to Adidas after a 13-year streak with Nike, although no formal announcement has been made yet. The current contract with Nike runs until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and Liverpool are not expected to renew the deal but will instead sign a new kit supplier deal with Adidas.

The new deal with Adidas is expected to last for five seasons, the length of which would run out to the end of the 2029-30 campaign.

Financially, it is likely that Adidas will exceed the current $30 million per year contract with Nike, with Nike paying Liverpool $30 million per year with a 20% royalty on all merchandise sales, excluding footwear.

Adidas returns to Liverpool for a third time as a kit supplier after working with Liverpool from 1985-1996, then again from 2006-2012.

The news that Adidas is making a comeback has excited Liverpool supporters. Even though we have yet to see leaks of the outfield player’s kits, there is now some detail on the new goalkeeper shirt.

How different will Liverpool kit designs be under Adidas as compared to Nike?

The goalkeeper kit is probably going to be mostly black with accents of light green on the Adidas, LFC, and Standard Chartered logos. There will also probably be some sort of Adidas three-stripe running down the sleeves.

Dark grey will also be integrated into the sleeve design, marrying the look of Liverpool. A light green panel of some type will run down the side of the goalkeeper kit.

Overall, the design language is straightforward but classic, emulating vintage casual kits with the addition of a second flat colour for contrast. Black and grey serve as flat colours, while green adds visual interest.

Liverpool are looking to embrace a new approach to their kit designs and resourcing as they move from Nike to Adidas. Though Liverpool had a fruitful commercial partnership with Nike, it seems that Liverpool is now turning in a different direction for their kit designs and pursuit of fresh merchandising strategies.

Adidas continues to have a successful history in the football industry. The new deal with Adidas will attract well-deserved interest and inspire merchandise sales for the club.

Overall, considerable interest, leaks, and more details will emerge over the coming months while Liverpool supporters trot into pre-season accommodations before the announcement of new kit designs.
