Liverpool linked with James Maddison

Liverpool could look to sign ‘exceptional’ £60m Englishman if they don’t get Mount – journalist

Liverpool could turn their heads towards the relegated player, James Maddison if their pursuit of signing Mount falls through, feels journalist Ben Jacobs.

A quality playmaker in Maddison could be available for a bargain price as Leicester have been relegated from the Premier League. Mount, however, has been one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer and at £70m, he could be on the costlier side.

Moreover, Liverpool have reportedly signed Mac Allister for a fee of £70m, and adding another midfielder for the same price would leave them with little funds for further signings.

Mount is one of Liverpool’s number one targets (after Mac Allister) heading into the summer window. However, there is hefty competition for the England international. Reports this week claim Manchester United are prepared to bid, while Arsenal are also keen.

And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, if Liverpool does end up missing out, then Leicester star Maddison is someone they could turn towards.

Should Liverpool consider Maddison?

Taking to Twitter, Ben Jacobs said that ‘clubs looking at Mount could turn to Maddison’ as an alternative. Moreover, with Leicester going down, they would not be in a stronger spot to negotiate for the player.

However, the journalist didn’t directly say that the Reds needs to make a move for the Englishman. But this does make up for an interesting conversation as Maddison has been a quality player for the Midlands club.

After their relegation, Maddison is sure to be heading out and a host of PL clubs would be interested in his services. Tottenham and Newcastle are the two current favourites to sign him.

However, Liverpool could be one of the clubs to tempt him. Klopp could use a bit of creativity in the midfield and the 26-year-old could provide just that.

Maddison, then, will face a big call. He’s set to make a big jump regardless. The question now is, who is going to pay the money, and who does Maddison feels the club that could take him to the next level.
