Liverpool have been in the race to sign the star Chelsea man, Mason Mount and are reportedly confident in bringing him to Anfield.
Since their failed pursuit of Bellingham, the Reds have opted for much more realistic signings. The likes of Mac Allister, Mount, Rice, and Paulinho are on Liverpool’s radar.
Moreover, the Merseysiders are now assured that they would get Mount to play at Anfield for the next season. Currently, the 24-year-old has stalled his contract talks with the Blues over a negotiation dispute.
If the situation doesn’t improve, Chelsea might be interested in listening to offers for the midfielder. His contract runs till 2024 and they might lose Mount for free.
Mount could be heading to Liverpool
Mason Mount, who rose the ranks while Lampard’s first stint as a manager, has been fundamental to their recent success. He was instrumental in their Champions League winning campaign.
Moreover, he seemed the main man under Tuchel as well but was looked over in Potter’s reign. Now, with the Blues appointing Lampard till the end of the season, the situation looks to be at a standstill.
Both the parties have not yet agreed upon the contract demands by the player. Hence, it might be the case for Mount to move elsewhere for an improved wage and more regular playing time.
As per Scott Trotter of Football.London, Mount had asked for assurance over playing time for the next season, back in March. Moreover, the Englishman wanted a much-improved wage and didn’t want to sign a long-term contract at Chelsea.
But these demands haven’t been met yet by the London club and they have stalled over the situation. However, if Liverpool are to bring the player to Anfield, they would have to pay a reported sum of up to £50m.
Mount has contributed five goals in 20 league starts this season, averaging more than one chance created and one tackle per game. Chelsea are sitting 11th in the table with four games remaining. Besides, the England international might feel he needs to move on for the sake of his career and would also look to play in European competition, which he will be missing out on if he decides to stay with Chelsea for another season.
