Liverpool fans may need to brace themselves as star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain so the Reds are now targeting Denzel Dumfries. With his contract expiring next summer, and Real Madrid lurking to pounce on a free transfer, the Reds are already working behind the scenes to secure a replacement.
The name on everyone’s lips? Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries. Reports (via Caught Offside) suggest Liverpool have reached an agreement to bring the Dutch right-back to Anfield next summer on a free transfer.
While nothing is officially confirmed, sources close to the situation believe Dumfries has already set his sights on the Premier League.
The move seems feasible financially as Dumfries currently earns just £2.7 million a year in Italy. Even with a pay raise in England, he would likely fit comfortably within Liverpool’s wage structure.
Dumfries: The perfect fit for Liverpool?
If Trent does pack his bags for Madrid, Dumfries could be the ideal replacement. The 28-year-old Dutchman shares many of the same strengths as Alexander-Arnold, especially when it comes to offensive contributions.
Dumfries thrives in the attacking third and has been a key figure in Inter’s defense, making him a natural fit for Liverpool’s dynamic style.
However, some might question his age, as Dumfries will be 29 by next summer. Despite this, he could still offer Liverpool several years of top-tier football. And while Trent’s departure would certainly sting, Dumfries’ arrival could soften the blow for Reds fans.
For now, all eyes are on whether Liverpool can convince their academy graduate to stay. But should those negotiations fall through, Dumfries might just be the right answer.
