Liverpool fans, brace yourselves! The Reds were this close to securing a hidden gem this summer, but FC Midtjylland slammed the door shut. According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Liverpool made a cheeky offer ranging from €8.7 million to €10 million for Chilean sensation Darío Osorio.
However, it wasn’t enough to get the Danish club to budge.
Darío Osorio: A missed opportunity for Liverpool?
The 20-year-old winger, who joined Midtjylland from Universidad de Chile, had an impressive debut season, scoring eight goals and bagging two assists.
This season, he’s already netted three goals and provided one assist, catching the eyes of top European clubs.
The Reds were reportedly the first to make a move, but Midtjylland didn’t even consider the offer. Maybe Klopp was hoping to pull off a bargain bin masterstroke, but it seems like the Danish club is holding out for more cash.
Midtjylland has big plans for Osorio, with the hope of turning him into one of the Danish Superliga’s biggest transfers. With Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and even Real Sociedad sniffing around, the competition is fierce. Could we see a bidding war next summer?
Midtjylland’s current record sale is €25 million, and they’re eyeing a similar sum for Osorio. Liverpool’s bid was way below that mark, so if the Reds want to get their man, they’ll need to dig deeper into their pockets.
For now, Osorio stays in Denmark, but who knows? Maybe come next summer, Liverpool will finally break the bank for this rising star.
