Liverpool set to trigger release clause as player about to take final decesion this weekend

According to latest reports Liverpool are willing to pay the release clause for Martin Zubimendi, but Real Sociedad are convincing him to stay.

Zubimendi has been included in Real Sociedad’s squad for friendly against Union Berlin. However Mikel Merino who is in talks to join Arsenal has been left out.

Reports indicate that the release clause has to be paid in full for Real Sociedad to agree to sell Zubimendi to Liverpool.

Will Martin Zubimendi Join Liverpool?

After several top-tier journalists revealed the Martin Zubimendi transfer news on August 7th, the updates have since gone silent. Fans are expressing their concerns on social media.

The latest on Zubimendi was from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany:

“FC Liverpool are pushing to sign Martin Zubimendi with ongoing talks. 25 y/o midfielder is keen to join LFC with immediate effect. His agency „Idub Global“ with best connections to Liverpool as they are also managing Xavi Alonso .It’s unclear whether Liverpool has to pay the €60m release clause or whether free negotiations are possible.”

Reports are coming regarding Sociedad’s efforts to keep the 25 y/o. Zubimendi is earning a gross annual salary of €3 million at Real Sociedad, which breaks down to €57,692 per week. Liverpool can offer him a better salary even with our strict wage structure.

Unless Real Sociedad comes with better salary making Zubimendi one of the highest earners at the club, Liverpool should have nothing to worry about.

Zubimendi is not a Rodri or Rice type player. Liverpool needed an upgrade in the No.6 position and Martin Zubimendi is definitely an upgrade to players we already have at that position. If Liverpool need to compete with the likes of City and Arsenal signing a defender preferably an LCB is a must.
