Reports in the last 48 hours suggest that Liverpool are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare to strengthen their central midfield as James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita will all be running out of contract at the end of the season.
Is Sangare the missing piece to Liverpool’s midfield puzzle?
Sangare is one of the names that have recently emerged as a potential target for Jurgen Klopp.
The Ivorian is known for his versatility to play in different positions and is capable of controlling the midfield and contributing in the final third.
He possesses strong defensive qualities and is also quick in offensive aspects of his game and can add a different dimension to the center with his height (6’3″).
His ability to resist opposition pressure and dribble forwards with the ball is demonstrated by his 69 percent success rate from 2.53 dribbles per 90, while he created 22 chances for his teammates in 2021/22.
Sangare’s strength lies in carrying and passing progressively, switching the play, and showing up around the box. Sangare’s 169 combined tackles and interceptions are the most by any player in the Netherlands that season.
Ibrahim Sangare to Premier League?
Sangare is expected to be available for a transfer at the end of the season, and Liverpool, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham, are reportedly known as the admirers.
PSV’s maestro was of interest last summer but a switch failed to materialize, though the Eredivisie giants are “open” to let him go for a fee of around £45m.
Sangare’s agent has reportedly contacted Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur to discuss a possible move to the Premier League at the end of the campaign.
Sangare is a class act and a vital player for PSV, representing the club on 38 occasions in all competitions this season.
“Obviously he can handle [the Premier League],”
PSV coach Van Nistelrooy told Voetbal International.
“I have challenged him because I think Ibrahim can go to the top in England.”
However, the Reds may face difficulty in signing the 25-year-old without Champions League football.
West Ham United has also been linked with Sangare, but the player wants to join a club with Champions League football on offer.
Liverpool are currently eighth in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, ahead of Sunday’s clash with top-of-the-division Arsenal.
