Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool have suffered yet another injury blow after Madrid clash

Liverpool defender Joel Matip came in for Joe Gomez in the 73rd minute as the England international suffered a hamstring injury against Real Madrid in the first leg of RO16 in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old had the worst night defending against the 14 times Champions League winner at Anfield. The Englishman was unable to match the game speed. Thus, he was unable to block Vinicius Jr shot resulting in Los Blanco’s opening goal.
Joe gave a questionable back pass, that led to a huge howler from Alisson Becker in the 36th minute which also resulted in the Brazilian’s second goal.
After this disastrous performance at Anfield, the Red’s defender was substituted in the 73rd minute. The Merseyside head coach, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Gomez suffered from a fitness issue and that he will undergo a test to confirm the extent of it.
Klopp on injury of Joe Gomez
The German boss said
“Yeah, we will see. He showed a little bit of a sign so we just made a decision. Now we will see. He will get checked tomorrow.”
Other than the 25-year-old, Ibrahima Konate has also not returned from injury yet, leaving only Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Nathaniel Phillips as the options available at the center-back position.
Konate was reported to be out for a hamstring injury and his return is still unknown in the Reds clan. While fortunately our star defender, Virgil van Dijk has made his return. But still, the Merseyside giants are in a dicey condition as they are counting on Joel Matip to stay fit.
LFC needs to bounce back. They are having the worst season in recent times. Liverpool are currently out of League Cup, F.A Cup, and now they are on the verge of getting knocked out of the Champions League as well.
Will they be able to pull a comeback at Santiago Bernabeu? Well as Klopp said we will know in three weeks!
