Mo Salah and Van Dijk have won Player Of The Year, while alongside these two, Sadio Mane’s names was also a part of the Ballon d’Or. John Achterberg thinks that the world should give Alisson Becker a similar amount of recognition.
Right now, Arne Slot and the Reds are busy gearing up for the Premier League and the Champions League as well. It is still unclear if we could see Becker getting out of his injury any time soon or not.
John Achterberg thinks Alisson Becker is highly underrated
Liverpool are one of the best squads, and their players have received enough exposure. A former goalkeeping coach thinks that this 31-year-old Brazilian professional should get the flowers he deserves.
Achterberg has commented on Alisson Becker and how talented he is. Goalkeepers like Emi Martinez have won multiple awards. Football enthusiasts consider the £67 million star one of the best goalkeepers in the world. However, Becker has received lesser recognition till now.
According to Achterberg, Alisson has received disrespect in the Yashin Trophy vote. The former LFC goalkeeping coach thinks whoever votes does not know goalkeeping.
“He has been the best in the world really for the last few years. I can say that now because I’m not his coach. It’s a bit disrespectful that he hasn’t been involved in the last few years in the Yashin Trophy”
Furthermore, in the LFC Transfer Room Podcast, the former coach called this Liverpool player underrated. Achterberg thinks that the Alisson Becker is a gem, but he is still far from individual awards.
“I know it’s going on the Champions League, but in that first year he was in the Champions League and he wasn’t in the top 10.
I don’t know who is in charge there, but they don’t have a clue about goalkeeping, because it’s really disrespectful that he’s not in the top five, but that’s for other people to decide.”
