Liverpool fans, brace yourselves — the next big signing might just be on the way. Jeremie Frimpong, the Bayer Leverkusen speedster, looks set to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League, with reports claiming the Reds are closing in on a deal.
And yes, Fabrizio Romano’s favourite phrase — “Here we go!” — might be ringing around Anfield soon.
The 24-year-old right-back has been a key player for Xabi Alonso’s side, and now, it seems Liverpool have made him their top target.
Talks over personal terms are nearly done. The release clause? No issue there either. Leverkusen and Liverpool have been in direct talks over the €40 million fee — just another day in the office for the transfer team at Anfield.
But while fans dream of Frimpong flying down the wing in red, Bayer Leverkusen may be preparing for goodbyes.
The Dutchman is said to be getting ready with a farewell message — and if it’s anything like his exit from Celtic, expect emotion, gratitude, and maybe a tear or two. During the time of joining Bayer Leverkusen, Frimpong left an emotional message for Celtic:
“I wanna thank all my team-mates for their help, the gaffer for his trust and the Celtic fans for their love. I will forever be grateful to Celtic and I wish you all the best for the future.”
“This is a great opportunity to play in one of the best European leagues. I’m really excited about the Bundesliga and especially about this club.”
“Bayer Leverkusen recently played regularly in the Champions League and the Europa League. They showed how ambitious they are internationally, not least in the two games against Rangers last year. I really like the offensive, fast and technical way of playing and I hope that I can help the team soon.”
Thus, he is expected to do the same as his move nears to joining Liverpool.

What will be the contract length for Jeremie Frimpong at Liverpool?
This move isn’t just about depth. Liverpool needs a new right-back after Trent Alexander-Arnold made it clear he’s leaving.
His likely move to Real Madrid at the end of June has left a Trent-sized hole in the squad. Frimpong, with his pace and flair, could be the answer.
Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that a contract until 2030 has been agreed in principle. Frimpong would be Liverpool’s long-term solution at right-back — assuming Conor Bradley doesn’t have something to say about it.
Micah Richards believes the youngster could be pushed aside, saying: “If Frimpong comes in, he’s No. 1, which could be difficult for Bradley to deal with.”
As for Leverkusen director Fernando Carro? He claims he hasn’t heard of a deal — but in transfer season, silence often says more than words.
With the final touches being put on the deal, Liverpool fans might want to start brushing up on Dutch.
