Jarell Quansah recently signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool acknowledging that Arne Slot management style though tough will ultimately make him a better player.
Under Slot, the 21-year-old centre-back is in a different atmosphere than under Jurgen Klopp who initially gave him opportunities in the first team.
Quansah under Arne Slot for Liverpool this season
Quansah’s playing time this season has been restricted by Slot who has reinstated Ibrahima Konate as Virgil van Dijk’s regular center-back partner.
Even though Slot’s candour and directness can be hard to accept at times Quansah acknowledged that these qualities are essential to his development.
Speaking to Liverpool FC he said,
“There’s a lot of similarities and differences [between Klopp and Slot], but I think the modern-day centre-back has to be able to do everything,
I think being at a club like Liverpool, you’re always striving to be the best in the world.
you need a bit of toughness, you need honesty at times, and that’s the good thing – you get that with the new boss.
Sometimes it’s hard to take but, at the same time, you need it in your career and it will make you a better player.”
Quansah thinks that this strategy will help him and his teammates get better because the new manager has high expectations and pushes the team to aim for the best in the Premier League and the Champions League.
Together with that Quansah talked about the particular areas he is concentrating on to improve under Slot’s tutelage.
He knows that he still has a lot of growing to do at the age of 21 especially in terms of strength consistency and aerial dominance.
He further said,
“It’s just about showing that on a regular basis, really, and getting into good habits and being really consistent.
I think sometimes it’s easy to go up and down and show good performances, but as a centre-back, I think you need to be consistent.
If I look at Virgil and the best centre-backs in the world, they’re seven or eight-out-of-10 every game, minimum, and for me to get to that level, that’s all I’m trying to do – to get steady games under my belt and then we can progress from there.”
He is motivated to step up his play and solidify his place in the Liverpool defense with consistent performances and ongoing development.
