The PA news agency reported that the Holland international Virgil van Dijk is set to see a specialist following a hamstring injury he suffered on Monday against a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford.
The Dutch center-back was substituted at half-time during LFC’s clash against The Bees. Although initially, the injury was a minor knock but now it seems concerning for the English side.
Jurgen Klopp on the injury
Earlier Klopp expressed his view on the injury. He said in the press conference
“Virgil felt a little bit the muscle and said it is fine, and he is a very good judge of these kind of things…but I didn’t want to take any risks.”
“The physios looked quite happy when I said we don’t take risks. It’s not an injury, he just felt the intensity.”
But as things stand the German genius may have to rethink his backline. Virgil is the wall for Liverpool FC. His presence was immediately felt as the Merseyside giants lost that match 3-1 in the absence of the Dutch international.
Injury of van Dijk is a sign of concern
The LFC number 4 has 213 appearances in the Red’s shirt. He has a tackle success rate of 63% . He was a key player in all 86 clean shits where he was the main man on defense. He also carries an impressive record of 332 interceptions and 38 blocked shots, according to premierleague.com.
According to the current situation, Klopp may be forced to call upon other center-back options such as Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, or Nathaniel Phillips.
Other than Virgil LFC Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are also out due to injuries. The Merseyside giants are currently in the 6th position.
Will the Reds be able to secure their top 4 spot despite having so many injuries?
