Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson received a red card for a challenge on Harry Wilson in the PL clash against Fulham.
After yesterday’s surprising 2-2 draw against the Cottagers at Anfield, the Merseysiders went five-points clear at the top of the PL points table.
The first half was rather dull for the Reds as they trailed from the 11th minute due to Andreas Pereira’s goal. Despite producing a few chances, the hosts missed the opportunities to score.
However, in the second half, Cody Gakpo scored a diving header from Mohamed Salah’s looping cross to equalise.
But Rodrigo Muniz again gave the visitors lead at the 76th minute from a counter-attack, taking advantage of the 10-men Liverpool side.
Finally, Diogo Jota scored the final goal of the match from Darwin Nunez’s assist that secured the crucial one point for the Anfield giants.

Andy Robertson to miss only one game for red card
Although the Merseyside club managed to get a point from the game, they were reduced to 10 men as Andy Robertson received a straight red card.
The Scottish skipper denied Harry Wilson of a clear run at a goal after he failed to control the ball and tried stopping the Welsh international by unfair means, earning him a red card.
Upon a VAR check, the referee confirmed that the offense was indeed enough to send Robertson off. Via the Premier League Match Centre twitter handle, the PL confirmed,
“The referee issued a red card to Robertson for a foul on Wilson which denied a goal scoring opportunity. VAR checked to confirm the red card and that Wilson was in an onside position.”
As Premier League rules state, a player will be banned for one game if a clear goalscoring opportunity is denied. If only the challenge is really harsh or serious, then the player will receive a three-match ban.
Robertson’s offense would only make him miss one match as he will miss Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final against Southampton.
The Scot will be available for another major PL clash against Tottenham next weekend. For Southampton clash, young left-back James Norris might feature as Kostas Tsimikas is also unavailable due to injury.
