Harvey Elliott witnesses a three-year Premier League record being broken
The record of being the youngest player in the Premier League history of Harvey Elliott is broken when Brentford played against Arsenal this Sunday.
A three-year record comes to an end
Prior to joining Anfield ahead of the 2019–20 season, the midfielder established the benchmark when, at the age of 16 years and 30 days, he entered the match for Fulham versus Wolves.
The record has been in place for more than three years. And Elliott, who turned 19 this year, is now one of Liverpool’s top prospects for the midfield position.
The Arsenal youngster breaks the record of Elliott
Elliott’s record was surpassed in Sunday’s 3-0 victory against Brentford by Arsenal. The scouser can no longer claim to be the youngest player to have ever played in the Premier League.
Given that Ethan Nwaneri, a midfielder for the Arsenal, was only born in March 2007, there were questions when the team named the 15-year-old on the bench.
He surpasses Elliott’s record by 214 days and becomes the first player ever at the age of 15 to play in the Premier League. He is 15 years and 181 days old.
Onto the next objective
Elliott won’t be too upset. Because these achievements are useless if players don’t go on to have prosperous professional careers at the highest level.
Elliott is already well on his way to accomplishing that. He has played in each match Liverpool has played so far this campaign. And he has been a star for the Reds throughout.
Elliott has just shifted into a central midfield position after spending the great part of his young career as a right-sided attacker.
Despite rumours that he was about to join Gareth Southgate’s senior squad, he will travel for the following two weeks with England’s under-21 team. And with Klopp’s guidance, the future seems bright for the young lad.
