Veteran goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler has confirmed that he doesn’t expect to join Liverpool this season. He was a part of the 2014 WC-winning Germany team.

The Merseyside giants have been linked with Zieler for a potential transfer over the summer. There is a major possibility that Liverpool backup goalie Caoimhin Kelleher will be leaving the club this transfer window.

According to a report by Bild, the 34-year-old goalkeeper is ‘high on Liverpool’s wish list’. But the same report has quoted the German has denied these speculations. He stated,

“I’m assuming that I’ll wear the Hannover jersey again in the new season and hope that we do better with the jersey than we did against Kiel [a 5-1 defeat on the last day of the campaign].”

They’ve also quoted Hannover Sporting Director Marcus Mann who reiterated Zieler’s stance,

“Ron [Zieler] is firmly scheduled for us. And that’s a good thing. We don’t think about it every day.”

Ron-Robert Zieler rules out Liverpool transfer rumours

Considering that Liverpool needs a second-choice goalie, Zieler might not be a bad option. He has the experience of being part of a champion team and wouldn’t cost much.

Having said that he has also been in England as he was a Manchester United player in his formative years. But Liverpool might be looking at better options than him.

Without any disrespect, there’s a reason that he is playing in the second division of the German league. He is still at what is the prime age for goalkeepers. If the Reds really need a quality back-up they should look at better options.

But with Adrian most likely signing a new contract with the intention of staying at Anfield, Liverpool might not proceed any further with the deal. Moreover, Zieler doesn’t look interested in joining the North-West giants.

Thus, Liverpool will continue their search for a backup goalkeeper as Jurgen Klopp looks to build an in-depth squad.
