Gary Neville has never been one to sugar-coat his opinions, and his latest take on Premier League title chances for Liverpool is no different.
Despite Liverpool’s strong form, the former Manchester United captain has poured cold water on the Reds’ title hopes this season.
Neville predicts Reds’ clash with Wolves
Liverpool are on a roll, chasing their fourth consecutive win in all competitions as they head to Molineux to face Wolves this Saturday.
Arne Slot’s side has been in excellent form, bouncing back from their shock 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.
Since then, they’ve cruised past AC Milan, Bournemouth, and West Ham, sitting just one point behind league leaders Manchester City.
However, despite Liverpool’s strong start, Gary Neville has made his prediction for their upcoming clash against Wolves. Speaking on The Overlap, the Sky Sports pundit backed Liverpool to win but not without some late drama.
“I’m going to go 2-1 to Liverpool,” Neville said. “I think it’ll be 1-1, and Liverpool will score a late winner.”
While a win against Wolves could keep Liverpool hot on City’s heels, Neville remains unconvinced about their title prospects.
“They won’t win the title” – Neville dismisses Liverpool title hopes
During The Gary Neville Podcast, alongside fellow pundit Jamie Carragher, Neville took an even stronger stance when discussing Liverpool’s chances of lifting the Premier League trophy this season. When Carragher was asked about Liverpool’s title ambitions, Neville quickly interrupted, confidently stating, “They won’t win the title.”
Neville’s bold claim comes after his pre-season prediction that Liverpool might even struggle to make the top four.
“We have to go Arsenal and Manchester City because we all collectively agree,” he said on Stick to Football last month. When asked about Liverpool sneaking into the top four, Neville added, “I’m not sure on Liverpool getting top four.”
While Neville’s words might sting for Liverpool fans, it’s all part of the game. With the Reds in fine form and a busy schedule ahead, including Champions League and Carabao Cup fixtures, only time will tell if Neville’s prediction holds any weight.
For now, all eyes are on Molineux as Liverpool look to keep the good times rolling. Will they prove Neville wrong or will Wolves be another tricky test on their road to glory? Let’s see if Slot’s Reds can continue to silence their critics.
