Gary Neville left red-faced as Liverpool humiliated Spurs to reach Carabao Cup final. Liverpool delivered a statement performance on Thursday night, thrashing Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield to book their place in the Carabao Cup final.

Arne Slot’s men were relentless, overturning a first-leg deficit in emphatic fashion and securing a Wembley showdown against Newcastle on March 16.

Neville’s prediction about Liverpool falls flat

Manchester United legend and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is no stranger to bold predictions. But his latest attempt spectacularly backfired. Ahead of the semi-final, he expressed confidence in Tottenham’s ability to navigate the Anfield storm and progress to the final. Looking back Neville had stated,

“I think Tottenham [will go through]. I think Tottenham are going to get a draw. I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.”

However, the only madness that unfolded was Spurs’ collapse. As Liverpool ran riot with goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk. Further, the Reds dismantled their opponents, exposing the frailties in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

A tactical masterclass by Slot

Liverpool’s aggressive pressing and quick transitions left Tottenham overwhelmed. Slot, who has taken the Premier League by storm, orchestrated a near-perfect game plan. His side not only overturned their first-leg defeat but also demonstrated why they sit six points clear at the top of the league.

Postecoglou had enjoyed an impressive start to life in North London. But now he faces the challenge of picking his team up from this heavy loss. However, Tottenham must regroup quickly, with a crucial FA Cup clash against Aston Villa looming.

Neville had earlier insisted that Spurs might have a shot at the Carabao Cup.

“I’ve got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season. And I’ve got a feeling that, to be fair, they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this.”

That moment came and went, and Tottenham floundered. With the Carabao Cup and Premier League out of reach, Postecoglou’s men now turn their focus to the FA Cup and Europa League, their last hopes for silverware this season.
