Fulham refuse to budge as Liverpool chase Carvalho

Liverpool Carvalho

Liverpool have extensively scouted Fabio Carvalho and would like to bring him to Anfield. However, Fulham are unwilling, as they chase promotion.

Marco Silva remains adamant that Carvalho is going to stay at least until his contract runs out in the summer. Though, Silva admits that there is interest from the Premier League and from other European clubs. Therefore, Fulham might find keeping hold of Carvalho beyond the summer ‘a bit difficult’.

Will Liverpool be able to get the signatures of Carvalho ?

Liverpool are monitoring Carvalho’s situation and would be ready to pounce, once he becomes available. But why has Carvalho caused such a stir among Europe’s elite?

Fabio Carvalho is having a breakout season in the fiercely competitive Championship. The English midfielder has scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 17 matches. In fact, Liverpool have scouted him for some time now, and see potential in the 19-year-old.

The Fulham midfielder was also ‘The Championship Young Player of the Month’ in August following a blistering start to the Fulham campaign.

However, Premier League clubs such as West Ham and European elites such as Real Madrid & AC Milan are also keeping an eye on the transfer developments concerning Fabio Carvalho. Liverpool also considered signing Carvalho in January. But Marco Silva is adamant about keeping him until the summer.

Carvalho could be seen as an alternative to Karim Adeyemi, if clubs fail to make Adeyemi transfer happen. Granted, they aren’t the same kind of players but, Carvalho’s attacking talent could be honed to make him truly world-class.

Anfield Home – Verdict

There is an inherent risk surrounding transfers of young players. Because, there is a paucity of data which, can lead to fickle conclusions. Carvalho has only played 1 match in the Premier League. Additionally, his time in the Championship has been limited to only 17 matches.

If Liverpool manage to sign Carvalho, it would be the second time that Liverpool have robbed Fulham of a talented youngster. The first being Harvey Elliot. Speaking of Elliot, Carvalho would probably be a deputy to him. Carvalho is a welcome addition to an ageing midfield. However, he would likely be loaned out again, once he joins.

Even though Carvalho looks promising, Liverpool should pursue Karim Adeyemi first. If they fail to break ground in that endeavour, they should then pursue Carvalho. An alternate strategy would be signing Carvalho on a free transfer, loaning him out and then potentially selling him for a high fee.
