Florian Wirtz opens up on family’s reaction to joining Liverpool

Florian Wirtz has officially landed at Anfield and fans are buzzing about the record-breaking signing.

The 22-year-old midfielder has opened up about how the move was received behind the scenes, starting with his own family.

Wirtz admitted he was the first in his family to seriously consider Liverpool as his next step, even before anyone else had processed the possibility.

Though surprised at first, they fully supported his decision once the Reds made their interest clear.

Wirtz reveals what made Liverpool feel like the right fit

“I think I was the first one in my family who was really into this club when they spoke to us or told us they were interested in signing me,” Wirtz told the club media in a interview.

“For sure, I didn’t expect that Liverpool would be my next club, but my family was supporting me. I didn’t have to convince them.”

He acknowledged that leaving Germany wasn’t an easy call. Wirtz plays for the national team and had built a strong foundation at Bayer Leverkusen.

But Liverpool’s approach and the people behind it helped him see it was the right step.

“The talks with the coach and Richard [Hughes] were so good from the very start,” he said.

“Every time I spoke to someone at the club, I felt like this is the place I want to be.”

With Premier League competition ahead and a huge stage to prove himself, Wirtz believes both he and his family are ready for the next chapter at Anfield.
