Liverpool forward set to join Italian club in January?

Liverpool’s summer signing Federico Chiesa is already facing an uncertain future at Anfield.

The Italian winger, who arrived for £10 million from Juventus, has struggled to make an impact and could be on his way back to Serie A on a loan deal in January.

Inter Milan eye January move for Federico Chiesa

Chiesa joined Liverpool with high expectations, but his time at the club has been marred by fitness issues. The 26-year-old has only managed one Premier League appearance this season, playing just 78 minutes.

Now, Inter Milan are reportedly keen to offer him a lifeline with a six-month loan deal in January, according to Tuttosport.

Liverpool had hoped Chiesa would strengthen their already formidable attack, which features stars like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo.

However, his lack of pre-season training and the intensity of the Premier League have slowed his progress.

Arne Slot explains Chiesa’s struggles

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been open about Chiesa’s challenges. Slot revealed last month that Chiesa’s absence from matchday squads stems from missing pre-season preparations.

“With Federico, it’s simple yet difficult,” Slot explained. “He missed a full pre-season, and stepping into a league with even higher intensity than Serie A is tough. He’s been in and out of training, which has made it hard for him to reach the required levels.”

Slot expressed sympathy for the winger, acknowledging Chiesa’s frustration at his slow integration into the squad.

“It’s a big disappointment for him. He signed a long-term contract, so we’ll see what the future holds, but for now, it’s been difficult.”

A promising career interrupted

Chiesa was once seen as the future of Italian football. He shone during Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph and was a standout player for Juventus before a cruciate ligament injury in 2022 derailed his momentum.

His move to Liverpool was meant to revitalise his career, but so far, it hasn’t gone to plan. A loan move to Inter Milan could provide Chiesa with the chance to regain his form and confidence in familiar surroundings.

As January approaches, Liverpool and Chiesa will have to decide if a temporary return to Serie A is the best solution for both parties.
