Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real Madrid expect to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent this summer.
Liverpool fans may still hope for a late change, but no U-turn appears likely at this stage. Romano insists Real Madrid remain calm and confident of completing the deal without complications, according to EmpireOfTheKop.
Trent’s current contract runs until 2025, but Madrid plans to acquire him without a transfer fee involved. The formal steps have not happened yet, but Madrid will contact Liverpool after Trent signs the contract.
Romano noted this is standard when big clubs deal with free agents. Liverpool have reportedly started identifying replacements, with Jeremie Frimpong being a serious option.

Despite Mo Salah signing a new deal and Van Dijk expected to follow, Trent still plans to leave. Romano stressed that those renewals won’t change Trent’s decision to depart.
David Ornstein also confirmed that Trent is expected to move to Madrid this summer. The news has disappointed many Liverpool fans who hoped for a change of heart.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool are in excellent form and pushing hard for the Premier League title. They are chasing their 20th top-flight crown, aiming to match Manchester United’s record.
Trent’s exit feels strange, especially considering the team’s current progress. The timing is baffling, with Liverpool building momentum and showing long-term ambition. His decision also clashes with his identity as a local lad and Scouser.
Many fans remember how he embraced comparisons to Steven Gerrard. Some now feel betrayed by his apparent choice to leave. Real Madrid view Trent as a key future star in their evolving squad.
Liverpool’s stability continues with Salah and Van Dijk, but that hasn’t influenced Trent’s plan. The deal awaits Madrid’s final signature and official communication with Liverpool. Until then, fans can only wait.
