Liverpool have been in direct talks with the representatives of Ryan Gravenberch, a 20-year-old midfielder from Bayern Munich, who has had a frustrating debut season in German football due to a lack of game time.
Ryan Gravenberch Emerges as a Target for Liverpool
The Reds are expected to sign several players after a disappointing season without any silverware, and they have been linked with a number of players, including Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
However, Liverpool pulled out of the race for Bellingham, and their attention has turned to other targets, including Gravenberch.
Liverpool are aware of the situation, and they might push for his services in the summer. Sport Bild are reporting that
“a delegation from Liverpool FC had sought talks with Ryan Gravenberch’s management in the past few days”
Gravenberch considering a move away from Bayern due to limited game time
Gravenberch’s representatives have already held talks with Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if Bayern will consider selling the player, who only joined them in a £16m deal last summer.
He has started just one game in the Bundesliga and recently has openly talked about his limited game time at Bayern Munich and the fact that he could consider a move away from the club.
With Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka already in tow, Laimer on his way, Marcel Sabitzer (at least temporarily) returning from his loan to Manchester United, and another move potentially happening, Gravenberch’s situation might not improve next season either.
Noted pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft said he asked a “Dutch footballing legend” about Gravenberch when his move to Bayern Munich became official and the anonymous footballer said the midfielder was not ready for a big club just yet:
“When he he came to Bayern before this season I spoke to a Dutch football- legend about the player.
He said: – Too early for him to take the next step. 2-3 more seasons at Ajax and he would have been ready. My friend was right.”
Neither Julian Nagelsmann nor Thomas Tuchel has been able to find a consistent role for Gravenberch.
Whatever was communicated during the player’s contract negotiations seems to be at the heart of the problem as his expectations are far different than the reality of his place at Bayern Munich.
A move to Liverpool on its way?
According to a report, Liverpool are keen to have Gravenberch in their ranks, and the player has already informed them he would be open to moving to Anfield.
The Merseyside club has struggled this season due to an inconsistent midfield, and Jurgen Klopp is keen on a midfield overhaul.
Gravenberch is a player who can feature in different roles in the center of the park and will surely bolster Liverpool’s squad.
However, it will be interesting to see if Bayern are ready to part ways with a young talent who is considered to be a huge prospect for the future.
Although Fabrizio Romano added:
“Bayern Munich want to keep the player, but they will discuss his future soon, and we saw last summer with Robert Lewandowski that, even if a club doesn’t want to sell, if a player wants to move a deal can happen.”
