Liverpool could potentially sign a European champion in Renato Sanches, this summer for a cut-price fee, as per reports.
Football Insider have claimed that the Reds have been ‘closely monitoring’ the Portuguese midfielder. Jurgen Klopp seems to be a long-time admirer of the 25-year-old as well.
Moreover, PSG have put the player on the transfer list and seems to be valued at around €17M and €28.4M.
The French champions have placed the midfielder on the list of players to be offloaded this summer. Meanwhile, the Reds could benefit from this as Klopp is planning on a midfield overhaul for the next season.
The report said that ‘Sanches has now been added to that shopping list with Liverpool aware that they could strike a bargain deal if PSG wants to offload him quickly’.
Liverpool now monitoring Renato Sanches
The PSG midfielder shot to fame when he helped his nation to the European Championship. He won the Young Player of the Tournament and claimed the Golden Boy award later that year.
However, things haven’t been the same since as he has been mediocre, to say the least, ever since. Although he has played for the German record champions, Bayern, he has not been able to reach the heights he previously achieved.
Moreover, he has also had his share in the Premier League with an underwhelming loan spell at Swansea during the 2017/18 campaign. He played just 860 minutes of football across 15 appearances for the Welsh side as they suffered relegation to the Championship.
Being a prodigy at Benfica, he joined Bayern, and big things were expected of the Portuguese. However, just after a year, he was loaned out to Swansea, where then Swansea boss said that he ‘stopped learning.’
“Renato knows he has had a very bad season…He stopped learning when he left Benfica and went to one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
With Bellingham no more a possibility, the Reds have turned their attention elsewhere. The Portuguese seem to be on their list as of now.
Currently, at PSG, he has had limited game time with only 736 minutes of football across all competitions. But, even with such disappointing stats, he could reach his true potential under Klopp.
