Red Bull Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol is no longer a top summer transfer target for Liverpool as per Football Insider.
While Klopp would love to bring the player to Anfield, it appears that option is no longer on the cards.
Liverpool are on the lookout for another center-back this summer. The Reds are enormous admirers of the 21-year-old Croatian, yet consider his asking cost excessively costly.
Rumors say that RB Leipzig are asking for a fee close to £80 million. The Merseyside club believes that the fee above including bonuses and add-ons is quite unreasonable.
Liverpool looking to pull out from Gvardiol pursuit
This season, Gvardiol has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest young talents. The 21-year-old still has a lot of clubs interested in moving him permanently this summer.
Man City and Tottenham have also shown interest in signing the Croatian this summer. Although, Spurs also share Liverpool’s insight of Leipzig’s cost being ridiculous and not beneficial.
Gvardiol has been a key player for the German giants this season. In 2022/23, he made 36 appearances in all competitions to help Leipzig move up to fourth place in the Bundesliga table.
After slowing their interest in Gvardiol, Liverpool have set their sights on other center-back targets.
On Friday, April 21, Football Insider sources revealed that Liverpool will go head-to-head with Tottenham for the signature of Evan Ndicka.
The Eintracht Frankfurt defender’s contract is going to expire in the summer. Ndicka will potentially be bombarded by contract offers including from the two Premier League giants.
Also, Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill can be a potential summer target for the Reds. The news accelerated after Liverpool scouts were impressed by his development at Brighton this season.
Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday evening when they face West Ham in the Premier League.
