Dutch Media On Cody Gakpo
Gakpo scored a goal and was awarded MOTM against Poland. He has an impressive game.
Gakpo played the full 90 minutes against France and was one of the players troubling the French defence. However, the media gave mixed comments
Football Oranje gave Gakpo a rating of 6.5 and wrote:
“Netherlands most threatening attacker again as he was always a threat when cutting in from the left. He almost scored with a lovely strike that was well saved.”
Voetbal Primeur also gave Gakpo a rating of 6.5 and wrote:
“He wasn’t as good against Poland against France, because Gakpo was barely found on the left. He did show flashes of his class. That bodes well for the rest of the European Championship.”
AD gave Cody Gakpo a rating of 7 and wrote:
“His move before half-time, where he came in from the side and shot, was just saved by Maignan. Even after the break in the run-up to the disallowed goal, he was equally elusive.”
Some complained that Cody Gakpo was not seen on the ball much, this was largely due to how the Dutch played. The Dutchman did not see the ball much they approached the game in a defensive style.
However not many saw Gakpo’s out-of-possession work as he was tasked with helping Nathan Ake defensively against Dembele.
Fotmob also gave Gakpo a rating of 7 and Van Dijk a rating of 7.1.
