Liverpool bid £21.2m for Monza’s Di Gregorio, who rejected them for Juventus. Michele Di Gregorio prefers the first-choice role at Juventus over Liverpool’s backup position.
Di Gregorio Targeted By Liverpool
Tutto Sport claims that Liverpool have made a £21. 2 million offer to sign Michele Di Gregorio the goalkeeper for Monza.
Liverpool are looking to add a new goalkeeper because Caoimhin Kelleher who is currently Anfield’s backup wants to leave in order to play more regularly.
With 33 Serie A appearances, a 78 percent save percentage and 12 clean sheets during a fantastic season with Monza Di Gregorio has become a serious target for the Reds.
Liverpool are trying to sign the Italian goalie for the third time with this latest bid.
Never Wanted To Be A Choice
Di Gregorio has chosen to decline a transfer to Anfield despite Liverpool’s interest and official offers.
He apparently gave Juventus his word choosing to sign with the Turin-based team where he would be able to play as their starting goalkeeper.
Di Gregorio declined the Premier League team’s advances because he didn’t want to be Alisson’s second fiddle at Liverpool.
A Backup Void
With Kelleher’s significance as a dependable substitute for Alisson during last season’s injury, Liverpool are extremely concerned about his possible departure.
Should Kelleher depart and Liverpool are unable to find a worthy successor such as Di Gregorio there may be a significant void in their goalkeeping staff.
The Reds’ next task is to locate a suitable backup goalkeeper so that Alisson will have enough coverage for the upcoming campaign.
