Liverpool would be travelling to Etihad without their midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, for Saturday’s game against the English champions Man City.
Thiago has been on the sidelines since Feb 4th in their 3-0 loss to Wolves and has missed 8 games since. As per Liverpool Echo, the Spaniard is expected to return in the mid of April.
The 31-year-old is yet to return to team training though and, as a result, is ‘unlikely’ to feature against City. Liverpool will hope to have him return later in April with games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham on the horizon. However, the Spaniard’s return is not fully confirmed.
Meanwhile, Gakpo and Nunez would be assessed prior to the game on Saturday. Moreover, Luis Diaz is reportedly available for the Etihad trip.
Injured Thiago to be missed by Liverpool against Man City
The midfielder hasn’t played since Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Wolves at the start of February, with the Spaniard recovering from a hip injury.
Thiago hasn’t since taken part in training or been seen at the AXA training centre. Klopp hopes to have his star midfielder back soon to help the Reds climb into a Champions League spot in the final stages of the campaign.
The midfielder has been an important player for the Reds since his arrival from Bayern in 2020 and has put on some exceptional performances. The Reds also missed the Spaniard in the Champions League finals last season, where he was out injured.
However, it is to be seen whether the Spaniard would be a part of Klopp’s side, come next season. His contract, however, runs till 2024 but recent transfer rumours have created doubts over his future.
Also, with Klopp looking at a possible midfield overhaul, it is to be seen whether the 31-year-old would keep his place as a regular starter.
