Chelsea are reportedly preparing a sensational bid for Liverpool’s star winger Luis Diaz, as contract uncertainties continue to surround the Colombian international.

The 28-year-old, who has been instrumental for the Reds this season, is now on the radar of multiple European giants, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona.

Despite being a key player in Arne Slot’s system, Diaz remains on the same contract he signed when he arrived from FC Porto in 2022. Liverpool’s wage structure usually rewards top performers with improved contracts. But Diaz has yet to receive such an upgrade.

Reports indicate that his wages are significantly lower than some of his teammates, including Cody Gakpo, who plays in a similar role. With his contract expiring in 2027, and renewal talks progressing slowly, Diaz may be at flight risk.

Liverpool are keen to secure his long-term stay. But the prolonged negotiations have alerted top clubs, particularly Chelsea, who are reportedly preparing a lucrative offer.

Diaz set to join Chelsea?

According to Colombian outlet Antenna 2, Chelsea want to make Diaz one of their highest paid players to lure him to Stamford Bridge in 2025. The report states,

“The Colombian could be one of the ‘aces’ up the sleeve of the Chelsea management. For the ‘Blues,’ the idea would be to offer a competitive contract to the Colombian who would arrive to be one of the highest-paid players in the squad.”

Chelsea’s management sees Diaz as a potential game-changer as they attempt to build their squad after a string of underwhelming seasons.

Historically, Liverpool and Chelsea have engaged in major transfers, with Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles making high-profile switches between the clubs. However, in recent years, Liverpool have been reluctant to sell key players to direct rivals.

With Díaz playing a pivotal role this season—scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in 31 games—Liverpool must weigh their options carefully. Selling to Chelsea could strengthen a competitor, but losing Díaz for free or keeping an unsettled player might be worse.

As 2025 approaches, this transfer saga is set to be one of the biggest stories in football. Will Díaz stay and fight for a new contract at Liverpool, or will Chelsea’s financial muscle prove too tempting?
