Premier League resumes this weekend after a 17-day break. Bad news comes from Anfield as Diogo Jota misses training before their match this Saturday against Brighton.

No Jota against Brighton this Saturday?

Talented Portuguese forward Diogo Jota skipped training ahead of the Reds’ match against Brighton after asking to be substituted from Portugal’s 0-1 loss to Spain in the Nations League midweek, dealing Liverpool a severe setback.

The gifted Portuguese forward sustained a hamstring injury in the preseason. He recently returned and now he might have sustained another injury. Thus, he could miss this weekend’s match against Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp could decide not to risk the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers player. His decision might stand even if the club has not confirmed whether he is injured and will be unable to play tomorrow.

Warming the injury bench again?

Jota has been a revelation for the Reds ever since he moved to Anfield. He earned a name for himself as a starter. The 25-year-old soon knocked Roberto Firmino down the lineup, taking over as the primary striker.

By their own rigorous expectations, Liverpool have not had a great start to the season, and some of that may be ascribed to the unavailability of their star striker, without whom it has been difficult to score goals.

Liverpool will be disappointed that the Portuguese striker appears to have injured himself once more, just when he appeared to be getting back to his best and gradually improving his match fitness.

Klopp’s frontline options against Brighton

Against Brighton, Jurgen Klopp will probably rely on Roberto Firmino or Darwin Nunez to rise to the occasion. Nunez would be a superior option even if the former has been chosen as a starter this year.

Brighton faces Liverpool at a moment when the Seagulls are undergoing a transformation. Since Graham Potter departed the team to join Chelsea, the English team now has a new coach who will bring fresh perspectives.
