Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has reignited the debate over which Premier League team is City’s true rival — Liverpool or Arsenal.
And if his recent comments are anything to go by, Liverpool holds a much more significant place in City’s competitive history.
Liverpool: City’s true foe? What Bernardo Silva says
After City’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Silva didn’t hold back in an interview with TNT Brazil. He pointed out the differences between facing Liverpool and Arsenal. With a hint of sarcasm, Silva stated,
“The difference? I don’t know. Maybe that Liverpool have already won a Premier League, Arsenal haven’t. That Liverpool have won a Champions League, Arsenal haven’t.”
Silva didn’t stop there, adding that Liverpool’s head-to-head matches with City have always been more intense.
“Liverpool always faced us face to face to try to win the games. By this perspective, the games against Arsenal haven’t been like the ones we had and have against Liverpool.”
The Portuguese midfielder’s remarks didn’t just criticize Arsenal’s lack of silverware, but he also had a dig at their tactics during the match.
“There was only one team that came to play football. The other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee, unfortunately,” Silva said.
His comments will undoubtedly add more spice to an already fiery rivalry between City and Arsenal, but it’s clear where his loyalty lies when it comes to identifying the bigger threat — Liverpool.
Arsenal left in the rain
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta and his players were left heartbroken as City snatched a late equalizer in the dying moments of the match.
While the Gunners put in a brave performance, the result left them with nothing but disappointment.
As the Premier League title race heats up, one thing is clear: while Arsenal might be getting better, Liverpool remains City’s fiercest rival. Silva’s jabs only serve to remind everyone that when it comes to pushing City to their limits, there’s no better match than Liverpool.
