BBC pundit Troy Deeney has singled out Luis Diaz as Liverpool’s standout performer in their 3-0 win over Bournemouth. He even tipped the Colombian to become the Reds’ main man should Mohamed Salah depart next summer.
Diaz was in scintillating form, bagging a lightning-quick brace to bring his Premier League goal tally to five for the season. His all-around play was equally impressive, completing a key pass, three out of five dribbles, creating a big chance, and winning four of seven ground duels.
What did Deeney say?
Diaz’s performance earned him a spot in Deeney’s Team of the Week, with the former Watford striker hailing his energy and versatility.
“On the right for Liverpool, he [Diaz] was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.”
Deeney wrote in his BBC column.
“I appreciate this is a massive statement, but it made me think if Liverpool do let Mohamed Salah go, he could take over as the main man.
He was excellent, left foot, right foot. He ran short and ran long.
His enthusiasm to play football was brilliant, and both his goals were unbelievable as well. Fantastic, fantastic.”
Diaz: The successor of Salah?
Mohamed Salah is entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool, fueling speculation about a potential free transfer to Saudi Arabia next summer.
The Gulf state, known for its lavish spending, has long pursued the Egyptian forward and even had a record-breaking bid rejected by the Reds last summer.
While Salah’s future remains uncertain, Luis Diaz has also been linked with a move away, with Barcelona reportedly showing interest. However, Diaz could be poised to fill the void if Salah departs at the end of the season.
The Colombian has stepped up this campaign with stellar performances and could be Liverpool’s next attacking talisman. Stats from sofascore.com highlight Diaz’s growing influence, making him a potential successor should Salah’s Anfield era come to an end.
