Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed the one thing he was not pleased about after his team’s 2-1 win over Lille in the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds were able to secure the win thanks to goals in both halves from Mohammed Salah and Harvey Elliot.

Liverpool dominated their French opponents on the night in all areas of the pitch, edging the possession stats: 56-44%, passes: 583-460, tackles: 20-10, shots: 13-4, shots on target: 7-1, big chances: 5-0.

But in spite of his side being the better team overall, Slot was left not too impressed with a particular aspect of the match.

Why Arne Slot was not completely pleased with Liverpool victory

Speaking in his press conference after the win, Slot said: “The only thing I was not happy about is that not for the first time in recent weeks it was one chance for the other team and a goal, but that is maybe a phase of the season we are in at the moment”.

The coach who has always set high standards for his team, stated that although his team controlled the ball during the game, he was not pleased that Lille were able to find the back of the net with the sole opportunity that they got.

This was evident as the French side managed to score with just a single shot on target throughout the match.

The Reds however have been very solid at the back in the Champions League this term, with Jonathan David’s strike being just the second goal they have let in across 7 league-phase matches in the competition.

Liverpool also set a new club record in Europe for the longest spell without conceding a goal. The last time Slot’s men allowed in a goal in the UCL was on matchday 1 when Christian Pulisic scored for AC Milan at the San Siro.

Liverpool managed clean sheets in victories over Bologna, Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Girona respectively.

There was a span of 599 minutes passed between Pulisic’s goal at the San Siro and Jonathan David’s strike at Anfield, surpassing the club’s previous 572 minutes record without conceding in the competition, set under Rafael Benitez in the 2005/06 season.
